Just a Harmless Little Heist....

"Confirmed." There is a whirring sound, and a helmet type thing lowers from the ceiling, close enough for Lezvie to reach. At the same time, the handcuffs that were on him loosen. "Please place the headpiece on your head. Please do not place it on any other part of your body, as we cannot confirm the effect it may have and will not be held liable."

He chuckles at what must have happened for them to make that rule, and he takes the helmet and puts it on.

It becomes smaller, just enough to be snug around his head.

"You may wish to be seated during this process."

He sits, putting mental barriers around certain parts of his mind, to be safe.

He's wise to do that, as the helmet begins reading and relaying certain parts of his mind, those regarding his childhood, any disturbances that would have caused his strangeness in DNA, and the full extent of his abilities.

His childhood is perfectly normal. The DNA anomalies are from experimental military operations that altered it, and the inactive bits are alien, injected into him, which he can activate through a powerful effort of will. His abilities are massively enhanced senses and speed.

The information is downloaded into a file, then the machine focuses specifically on what he knows about Carman and Nae, any other close attachments he might have, and his biggest weaknesses.

He's not only shielding information about close relations, but projecting false memories so the machine doesn't notice. He only distantly knows Nae and Carman, and he has no weaknesses beyond basic things that humans are hurt by.

[How strong is his shielding? The extractor is fairly heavy duty, but not perfect.]

[Military-grade, tested by telepaths, whom he defeated.]

[Right then.]

The headpiece finally loosens and retreats into the ceiling again.

"You may experience minor to severe headache, this is normal. Please hold while the gathered information is reviewed."

He takes an asprin and waits.

About forty-five minutes later, his door opens. Jake stands on the other side, holding Lezvie's rope, and looking not terribly happy. "Come with me."

He does so.

He leads him through the hall, through another elevator, and finally to a hospital looking place, where he hands the rope over to a pair of men in white uniform. The uniformed men tug Lezvie after them, to a room containing a bed with straps on it. "Lay down."

His eyes narrow. "What are you going to do to me?"

"We must perform further tests." The doctor tugged on Lezvie's rope. "We have no intention of permanently injuring or killing you, have no fear. Lay down."

He approaches the bed to show that he's cooperating, then pauses. "Will you alter me in any way?"

"Of course not." (Considering Lezvie's good at reading people, I'll add that the doctor should also have said, "Not until we've been ordered, anyway.")

Lezvie does a quick scan of the room, looking for weapons that the doctors can use, planning to fight if he has to. "I'll cooperate if you don't use straps or sedatives."

There is nothing visible, but there are drawers and cabinets that conceal scalpels, needles, other surgery tools.

One of the doctors laughed a bit. "I'm sure. If you insist, we will not use sedatives. However, the straps are necessarily. If only because your reactions to some of the testing may be involuntary."

Lezvie gives that doctor a flat gaze and replies in an even monotone. "I don't have involuntary reactions."

"829, if you do not cooperate, we will be forced to sedate you."

"I will cooperate. If you don't use the straps."

The doctor sighed. "We have rules in place. If we go against them for you, everyone will be wanting to be exempt from the rules, and things would go insane. We can make no exceptions, I apologize."
